The Education and MisEducation of Mental Health: Choosing the Right Mental Health Provider

Stuck In The Middle (SITM) and Black Mental Health Alliance of Nashville (BMHA) share mutual goals in helping to reduce the stigma associated with mental health trauma, helping to spread awareness, and educating others about mental health while providing support and resources to their respective

communities.

We want to help extinguish the distrust and hesitance in connecting with a therapist or other clinicians. Since there’s an overlap in clinical professions and their services, we want to also help

clarify the differences in each of the disciplines. Trying to decipher which counseling provider one might need can delay or even prevent an individual from seeking out the treatment they need.

Having this conversation will help others make a more informed decision about who is best suited to address their counseling needs.
